Beginning Sept 1, 2024, whenever a vehicle is sold in Oklahoma, the car dealer or those involved in a private transaction must submit pre-registration information to the State of Oklahoma within TWO DAYS of the date of the sale.
When pre-registration is completed, the vehicle purchaser will receive a metal license plate with pre-registration decal stickers to attach to the vehicle. If the vehicle purchaser is using a retained license plate from a previously owned vehicle, they will only receive the decal stickers. Paper plates from car dealers will now expire in 10 DAYS.
Pre-registration decal stickers will be valid for 2 months. Payment for title transfer, taxes, and registration will continue to be due 2 MONTHS from the date of title assignment. Failure to do so will result in penalties.
